We are a thriving Independent Historic Library and Educational Charity, welcoming new members of all ages.
We are open as usual: Tuesdays to Fridays 10am-5pm and Saturdays 10am-4pm.
Librarians used to live in the cottage at the rear of the Institution. The first Librarian, John Squance, lived here from 1813 with his wife and daughter, Eliza. In 1849, Eliza was appointed his successor – one of the first female librarians in the country.
