We are delighted to use the South West Collections Explorer to showcase our Prints and Drawings. This rich collection includes sketchbooks, scrapbooks, portraits, political posters, trade cards of local businesses and drawings of buildings and landscapes. It offers a fascinating glimpse into the history of our region.
About the South West Collections Explorer
South West Collections Explorer is a website that allows users to view historic collections from all over the South West. Funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund and lead by Exeter’s Royal Albert Memorial Museum, the website was relaunched at the start of 2026, presenting museum collections online in an open and interactive way. At the Devon and Exeter Institution, we have been very pleased to be involved in this project, which brings our Prints and Drawings collection to a much wider audience.
Our Region Revealed
The Prints and Drawings collection has been partially catalogued and digitised as part a project which began in 2019, called ‘Our Region Revealed’, which was made possible by grants from the National Lottery Heritage Fund, The Pilgrim Trust, the Friends of Devon’s Archives and the Garfield Weston Foundation. As well as allowing us to manage and preserve this unique collection, this project has also enabled us to embed them in our programme of learning and engagement activities for all ages.
We continue to digitise and catalogue the remaining Prints and Drawings, which will be made available through the South West Collections Explorer.
