Trial Membership

Are you considering DEI membership? Would you like to find out a bi more before committing…? Why not sign up for a Trial day- or week-long Membership and see if what we have to offer meets your needs and inspires you?

Day-long Trial Membership costs just £10; week-long Trial Membership* is £25. The cost is redeemable against annual membership fees, if you sign up to join us within a month of your Trial.

What can I do at the DEI in one day?

We offer a beautiful, historic reading, writing and meeting space right in the centre of Exeter, with magnificent early 19th century galleried libraries for research, reading and relaxation. Here are a few ways you could spend your time here:

– Bring your laptop and take advantage of our high-speed fibre Wi-Fi to work online;
– Use our computers to search a range of databases, such as Ancestry or The British Newspaper Archive;
– Browse the daily papers over a cup of tea in the cosy, wood-panelled Courtenay Room;
– Take a look at the large range of periodicals and journals we subscribe to, including New Scientist, The Literary Review, and History Today;
– Enjoy lunch from our in-house café in our tranquil courtyard garden;
– Meet our warm and friendly community of fellow readers and writers.

See a full list of the benefits of DEI membership here.

You can either book a Trial Membership in advance or  just turn up on the day – it’s up to you! Please note, though, that if you want to view an item from our Heritage Collection, you will need to get in touch with the library team before you come in – ideally the week before.

NB If you’d like to give Trial Membership as a GIFT – please click here.

If you have a query about any aspect of DEI membership, please contact our Membership Officer, Carrie, on [email protected].

* By a ‘week’ we mean 5 consecutive days, not including days when we’re closed (Sundays and Mondays), so e.g. Tuesday – Saturday, or Thursday – Wednesday.
