Meet outside the Institution at 7 Cathedral Close.

Face coverings must be worn inside the building.

The group size will be restricted to five people per guide and we will maintain social distancing and throughout the tour.

Nature Writing 

Adult workshop /  free and open to all / 5 places per workshop / Booking essential

Taking inspiration from the DEI’s collections, in this workshop we will be looking at how poets and writers have negotiated the image of “Devonshire” throughout the centuries, before starting to think about capturing the environment in our own terms. You are invited to bring a sample of nature writing that particularly speaks to you, which we will discuss briefly as a group.

Bananas for Kokedama

It’s National Children’s Gardening Week and to celebrate we’re hosting a bookworms garden workshop!

Introducing you to the ancient practise of kokedama, a Japanese style of Bonsai, get your hands dirty making a moss ball planter of your own.

Shell containers

In this workshop, we encourage you to bring containers to be upcycled with shells.   Bring your own finds from the beach and your own container, or use one of ours.

Join us and colleagues from the Cathedral Library and Archive to celebrate Cathedral Green.

Tree themed ‘Make and Take’ event for children and the young at heart.

Special collections displays at the Cathedral and the Institution – drop in throughout the day, no need to book

High Tea at the Institution

The Courtenay Room 2pm- 4pm

Join Charlotte in the Courtenay Room for High Tea/ Booking essential / £25 for two £15 for one / pay by card or cash on the day.    Please note your preference on webcollect / 12 places available / all food is organic and home made.

Menu 1 (For 2 people) Traditional
2 Fruit and 2 plain scones with cream and homemade jam.
2 slices of either Orange and lemon cake or Blueberry cake
2 Mini apple or almond danish
6 finger sandwiches –
Smoked salmon, cream cheese and dill, Egg Mayo, Cucumber and sea salt
2 profiteroles
1 pot (for two) of coffee (Caff or decaf) or Tea (English Breakfast, Earl Grey or Redbush)

Menu 2 (For 2 people) Tea with a Twist
2 Cheese and rosemary scones
2 Sundried tomato and basil scones
Homemade chutney and Cheddar cheese.
6 finger sandwiches
Egg Mayo, Cucumber and sea salt, Ham and mustard
1 slice of Blueberry cake or Carrot cake
1 slice of Parkin
2 cheese twists

1 pot (for two) of coffee (Caff or decaf) or Tea (English Breakfast, Earl Grey or Redbush)

Bookworms Bug House Craft

Children’s workshop / free and open to all / materials provided  /  5 places per workshop / Booking essential 

10.30am – 12noon

Provide a home for insects and bugs and make your garden a wildlife haven with this week’s Bookworms Bug house craft!

See the beasts of the collection and gather materials from the library garden to create your own bug house.

 

We will be observing enhanced hygiene procedures and maintaining social distancing.  

Children under 11 are exempt from wearing a mask.   Masks must be worm by those over 11, unless the event is taking place out of doors.

Indoor events will take place upstairs in the Upper Reading Room and windows will be kept open.

To ensure we are maintaining safe social distancing and number limits for events, we ask parent/carers to register their children and move to the parent/carer seating area in the Courtenay Room. 

We are Covid-secure venue and will retain your details for test and trace for 21 days.
